The dual apprenticeship in Germany combines theory ant practical work experience. Apprenticeships in Germany are inherently paid for. Approximately half of the young people who have finished school decide to opt for one of the more than 350 different officially recognized professions to chose from. In comparison con a lot of other countries this kind of apprenticeship differs because of its focus on practical experience: The apprentice works per week during 3 or 4 days in his company and is trained in practical work issues, the rest of the time the apprentice learns the theoretical side of the profession in vocational schools. the over all time of an apprenticeship in Germany can last between two and three and a half years. The vocationals schools are organised and supervised by semi governmental entities.
